Corrie actor quits after 4 years of explosive storylines on the cobbles

Qasim Akhtar is reportedly saying goodbye to Coronation Street after four years on the cobbles.

The actor, who plays Zeedan Nazir, has been involved in some explosive storylines during his time on the show, including his on-screen wife Rana’s recent lesbian affair with pal Kate.

After rising to fame on shows like Shameless and Waterloo Road, it’s said that 26-year-old Qasim wants to pursue other projects after almost four years in Weatherfield.

But ITV bosses are reportedly leaving the door open in the hope that he’ll one day return.

A source told The Sun : “Qasim has been really popular among the cast and viewers but has decided he wants to do other things in the short term.

“He was a successful actor before he came onto Corrie so is looking forward to having another crack at something new. It was entirely his decision to leave. Bosses are hoping that in leaving the door open, he will return one day.”

A Corrie spokesperson added to the newspaper: “Qasim is a talented actor who has been involved in some great storylines.

“We wish him every success in the future.”

Qasim is said to have broken the news of his departure to show bosses last year.
