Police are looking for a teenage girl who vanished with a 45-year-old man who signed her out of school by pretending to be her stepdad. Officers in Allentown, Pennsylvania, issued a missing person alert for Amy Yu, 16, and Kevin Esterly, who is also wanted over allegedly interfering with the custody of a child.
Yu is thought to have skipped school as many as ten times in the last few months by changing her school documents to list Esterly as her stepfather, according to police, Gary Hammer of the Colonial Regional Police told ABC News. He said the girl’s mother – a single parent – went to pick her up from Lehigh Valley Academy on February 9, only to be told she had left with her stepfather.
School records show these incidents occurred between November 13 and February 9 without her parents’ permission. Amy’s younger brother and mother said the two families met at church years ago and Amy is friends with one of Esterly’s daughters. They describe Amy as a well-liked girl with lots of friends who always helped take care of her brother, John. John said after his mother dropped him and Amy off at the bus stop Monday, Amy took off and he didn’t know where she was going. Her passport is missing from the family home.
