Ant McPartlin has been axed from his £20million deal with Suzuki following his drink-driving charge – and Dec has been dropped too. The Japanese motor firm says it will no longer work with the double act amid concerns Ant is no longer a suitable ambassador for cars. Losing the lucrative deal is another blow to the TV presenting duo whose future in upcoming shows Britain’s Got Talent and I’m a Celebrity looks uncertain.
Suzuki will continue to sponsor the last two episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway without them featured in the ads. In a statement released today, Suzuki said: “Suzuki are withdrawing their advertising campaign with Ant and Dec. No further material featuring the duo will be aired and Suzuki’s endorsement deal with the pair has come to an end.”
The £20million deal, which includes lucrative spots on Saturday Night Takeaway, saw Ant and Dec driving around and giving away cars to members of the public. The deal, struck in December 2015, is believed to be one of the biggest in British TV history. Ant, 42, has now formally entered rehab following his arrest last Sunday. He will appear at Wimbledon magistrates court on April 4.
