Terrified workers were evacuated from London’s Gherkin skyscraper this morning when a bomb squad carried out a controlled explosion of a suspicious package in a nearby lorry.
Scores of frightened employees were shepherded out the 591ft tall landmark in the Capital’s financial district by police who were alerted to the lorry that had parked up outside.
Taking to Twitter, the workers shared images of the package, which they claimed was a microwave box decorated with a large red bow.
Matthew Reeves, who was caught up in the mayhem, said: “Looks like a microwave, red parts appear to be packaging.
“Area still locked down.”
