Police probe after ‘schoolgirl attacked while praying at school’

Police are investigating claims a schoolgirl was attacked and beaten as she was praying at a Birmingham school.

The teenager was allegedly left bloodied and bruised after being set upon by another pupil at Bordesley Green Girls School.

The alleged incident is understood not to have been racially motivated.

West Midlands Police is looking at the incident and has stepped up patrols at home time.

A force spokesman said last week: “Police were alerted by staff at Bordesley Green Girls School on Monday (19 March) to a fight that had taken place between pupils; the school has taken action and we understand pupils involved were suspended.

“Neighbourhood officers will be patrolling near the school at home time this week in order to provide some reassurance and to deter any trouble.

“Our officers are liaising with the school in order to understand exactly what happened, what injuries were sustained and if police intervention is required.”
