Boxer dead at 26 following knockout defeat

BOXER Arrest Sahakyan has tragically died aged 26 after spending ten days in a coma.

The Armenian-Russian was rushed to hospital after being defeated by knockout on December 26.

He suffered a swell on his brain and was forced to undergo surgery.

Ten days in a coma followed, before he passed away yesterday.

Relative Svetlana Petrosyan wrote on Instagram: “How … how to continue to live … Our soul … our joy … My heart is torn to pieces …

“I don’t believe … it’s like a bad dream …

“We loved you very much .. very .. our dear. You were the kindest, most cheerful, wonderful, sincere person.”

As well as boxing, Sahakyan also took part in mixed martial arts.

Petrosyan confirmed that Sahakyan would be buried in Yerevan, Armenia.

But his funeral will take place in Tolyatti, Samarra in Russia on January 11.

A further tribute read: “He was a very bright, kind and sympathetic person with a capital letter.”

While another wrote: “Our angel, we will not forget you.”

Super middleweight Sahakyan fought nine times professionally – winning six of his bouts.

He won the first four fights of his career, all taking place in Thailand, culminating in winning the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver Middle Title against Theerawat Yoohanngoh.

His further five fights took place in Russia.

He took on Igor Semernin in Tolyatti on December 26, during which he suffered his fatal injuries.
