Two pilots tragically lost their lives after their planes collided during the landing phase at the National Championship Air Races in Reno, leaving onlookers in shock.
Nick Macy and Chris Rushing were both confirmed as deceased by the Reno Air Racing Association. They were highly regarded for their exceptional piloting skills and had achieved Gold wins in the T-6 Class.
As per The Official 2023 NCAR Race Plan Schedule, the T-6 Class – Gold Race commenced at 1:45 pm and was scheduled to conclude at 2:15 pm. It was during this final phase of the race that the collision occurred between the two pilots.
Macy was reportedly piloting the Six-Cat aircraft from Tulelake, California, while Rushing was at the controls of Baron’s Revenge from Van Nuys, California. Rushing had won the race on Sunday and held the title of defending champion.
Fortunately, there were no additional reported injuries resulting from the incident. The cause of this tragic collision is currently under investigation.
