The A1 has been forced to close in both directions following a three-vehicle collision which saw a car mounting the pavement and crashing into a café earlier this morning.
The road was shut after the incident, which occurred at approximately 7.45am. Three vehicles appear to have been involved in the crash, with the area cordoned off by police and debris scattered across the carriageway. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, where four individuals were treated for their injuries. One of the vehicles involved ploughed into an outdoor seating area at a nearby café, police confirmed. Two of the four people treated at the scene were taken to hospital, while the remaining two were transported to a ‘major trauma centre’ – their conditions are not known at this time.
The collision occurred on the A1 in the Upper Street area of Islington, a location well-known for shopping and dining, with numerous restaurants and cafés lining the road. The car that mounted the pavement appears to have crashed into Pera Schnitzel Garden on Upper Street.
