The Duchess of Cambridge’s brother James has revealed he has been forced to cancel his wedding twice during the coronavirus lockdown.
Kate’s little brother was set to marry his French fiancée Alizee Thevenet this year after getting engaged in September 2019, but like thousands of couples up and down the country they had to put their plans on hold.
They decided to cancel their original celebration right at the start of lockdown, when weddings couldn’t take place at all, but have now announced that their second attempt has also been scrapped.
The news was sure to be a blow for Kate and the rest of the family, who would have been looking forward to welcoming Alizee to the family.
However James isn’t letting the disappointment get him down, and posted a lovely Instagram message gushing about his bride-to-be.
Sharing snaps of their romantic getaway to Italy, he wrote: “It’s a year since I asked Alizee to marry me… what a year it’s been!
“Two homes, lockdown, two attempts at a wedding, a litter of [puppy emoji], launching of new company, a beard shave and much more but the best part is that I get to share it with you @alizeethevenet and I can’t wait to take on whatever the future holds for us.
“We managed to escape to Italy for a quick dip in the the sea, lots of [pasta and wine emojis] and now ready to face the world again.”
When the original wedding was cancelled a source told the “It’s very sad, but it’s just not practical to hold it in this crisis.
“Holding an AngloFrench wedding is impossible in the coming months and is still likely to be difficult in the summer.
“They would prefer to wait until all their guests are able — and happy — to attend.”
James shared their happy engagement news on Instagram last year, posting a photo of them together showing off his future wife’s stunning ring.
He wrote: “She said OUI. Our secret is out but we couldn’t be happier to share the news” with heart and champagne emojis.
James is the final Middleton child to tie the knot, following on from Kate and his other sister, Pippa.
Kate became the Duchess of Cambridge when she married Prince William back in 2011, and Pippa married James Matthews, the older brother of Made in Chelsea’s Spencer Matthews, in May 2017.
James and Alizee met on a chance night out in London and hit it off straight away.
