UK weather: UK to be hotter than Majorca

BRITS will soak up 22C sunshine today as families enjoy their half-term holidays.

The sunshine is expected to be as hot as Majorca, with highs of 22C in central Scotland and Exeter.

The mercury will reach 21C in Cardiff and Kendal near the Lake District this afternoon.

It comes after beaches were packed across the country this weekend, with dry weather expected to continue for the rest of the week.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Early cloud will become increasingly confined to the far north and east, where it will feel cool.

“Otherwise it will be dry with plenty of warm sunshine. Breezy across the far north and across some southern areas.”

Tomorrow, low cloud will give way to sunny spells with the most warmth felt in the west.

Meanwhile, in Majorca the mercury is expected to hover around 21C on Tuesday.

Paul Gunderson, chief forecaster at the Met, said: “The jet stream sitting to the north of the UK is holding unsettled weather systems at bay and allowing high pressure to dominate bringing fine weather to the vast majority of the UK.
